This scrappy terrier originated about 300 years ago in North Wales to hunt otter, fox, and badger and is still used on farms today to control vermin.Welsh terriers are very loyal family companions with high energy levels. They are not as enthusiastic about strangers and will bark to announce their arrival.

Appearance
The Welsh terrier's outercoat is hard, wiry, and dense with a close-fitting thick jacket; the undercoat is short and soft. The jacket is black or grizzle, spreading onto the neck, down onto the tail, and into the upper thighs. The legs, hindquarters, and head are a clear reddish tan.

Height: 15-20 inches. Weight: 19-22 lbs.
