Hovawart Dog

Hovawart

This breed is very old and very new. They were created in the early 1900's but were based on a very old dog breed. They were officially recognized in 1937. Hovawart is a German word which translates into "guardian of one's home". These intelligent and versatile dogs can make a wonderful addition to your family. They have a keen sense of smell which makes them ideal for search and rescue. They are very protective of their family and make great watchdogs. These dogs should be socialized at an early age. They require a lot of exercise and need only occasional grooming. They weigh 55 to 90 lbs. and stand 23-28" at the shoulders
